PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Transportation officials have unveiled their vision for improving the public transit system in Rhode Island.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation and the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority released a video outlining the agencies’ vision.

It highlights plans to build a new intermodal facility at the Providence Amtrak station and the benefits of a modern system. The state has received a $650,000 federal grant to help plan for the new mass transit center.

Department of Transportation Director Michael Lewis says the new vision will benefit the current users of the system and attract a new generation that values transportation choice and convenience.

Voters are being asked on Nov. 4 to approve $35 million in bonds to renovate transit infrastructure throughout the state.

The five-minute video is on the transportation department’s website.
