ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The French government is honoring two Florida World War II veterans.

The French Consul General will bestow the Legion of Honor award to Linwood E. Farmer and Thomas R. Cross in a ceremony Sunday in Atlantic Beach.

The French government has been honoring veterans across the U.S. in recent years to honor their contributions to gaining peace in Europe. The Legion of Honor was established by Napoleon Bonaparte and is France’s highest honor. Notable Americans have also been given the medal over the years, including Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell and Dwight D. Eisenhower.
