MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - A 27-year-old Mason City man has been given probation and suspended sentences on charges of child endangerment, domestic abuse assault and animal neglect.

Dacota Witham was sentenced on Wednesday. He’d pleaded guilty to the charges. He was given suspended sentences of two years in prison and one in jail, two years of probation and was ordered to spend six months at Beje Clark Residential Treatment Facility.

Officers who were sent Aug. 9 to investigate a report of an assault say they found a dog in Witham’s garage that had been killed in an inhumane manner. Officers also say Witham left his 7-month-old daughter unattended.
