BISHOPVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a former Lee County deputy has been arrested after he told someone he was a federal drug agent and tried to take their medication.

The State Law Enforcement Division said in a news release that 31-year-old Christopher Stokes was charged Friday with misdemeanor misconduct in office.

SLED agents say Stokes drove to a home in Darlington County in his marked Lee County deputy patrol car in August and told someone in the home he was a Drug Enforcement Administration agent and he was seizing medication.

Documents from SLED didn’t indicate why Stokes chose that home or what medications he was seeking.

Stokes faces up to a year in jail if convicted. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.
