EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - A Utah man suspected of raping a 12-year-old Eugene girl has been arrested after DNA linked him to the rape.

The Register-Guard reports (https://bit.ly/1wb6vhF ) Anthony Wayne Meredith of Park City was jailed this week on charges of first- and second-degree rape and first and second-degree sodomy. The 22-year-old Meredith was arraigned Thursday and entered a not guilty plea.

Investigators say in 2008 the victim along with her sister and cousin went to a park to feed ducks. Police say a boy invited the girls to play hide-and-seek and the boy’s stepbrother, then 16-year-old Meredith, joined them.

Police say Meredith pushed the 12-year-old to the ground and raped and sodomized her as the children screamed. The victim told her mother and police collected DNA.

In August, the DNA sample matched Meredith.
