BOONTON, N.J. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the deaths of two landscapers who died after they were trapped in a large, excavated hole outside a northern New Jersey home.

The accident occurred around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. News 12 New Jersey (http://bit.ly/YRUdjy) reports a trench gave way while the workers were excavating a drainage pipe at the Rockaway Valley Road home in Boonton Township.

The channel reports one worker became trapped and another man jumped in to try and save him. Both men were soon under about 10 feet of dirt.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s office said Thursday afternoon that two bodies were recovered after a massive search and rescue effort.

Authorities are not releasing the workers’ names. They say the investigation is ongoing.
