RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Ellsworth Air Force Base is the subject of a full-page advertisement published in a South Dakota newspaper by U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rounds.

The Rapid City Journal (http://bit.ly/1t639hd ) reports the Republican candidate published the ad announcing that his Democratic challenger Rick Wieland is endorsed by a “radical” group that wants to “wipe out the B-1Bs at Ellsworth and other bases.”

The ad refers to the group Council for a Livable World.

Weiland has labeled the ad a “lie.” The council has endorsed Weiland, but the group says the claim that it wants to “wipe out the B-1Bs” is false.

Rounds, Weiland and independents Gordon Howie and Larry Pressler are vying for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Tim Johnson.
