ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A former Little Canada chiropractor who admitted raping a client has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Paul D. Thompson was sentenced Monday by Ramsey County District Judge Leonardo Castro. The Star Tribune reports (http://strib.mn/1ro7eIr ) that Castro gave Thompson the maximum sentence outlined in a plea deal.

The judge read a letter in court from the victim in which she wrote of her shame and disgust. He also read a letter from the woman’s sister who said the victim was suicidal and had to be hospitalized twice.

Castro rejected a plea for leniency from Thompson’s attorney, who said Thompson had no criminal record and admitted his crime when confronted by police. Prosecutor Kelly Olmstead argued that the 54-year-old Thompson groomed his victim over years of treatment.
