JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Plans have been approved by southern Indiana city officials for construction of a new Ohio River marina and shoreline improvement project.

The Jeffersonville City Council voted unanimously Monday to support a proposal for financing the estimated $3 million project. The News and Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1t7WtQT ) construction could start in a couple weeks, with that work including at least 10 boat docks, landscaping, shore stabilization and a concrete walkway.

Council vice president Lisa Gill says she believes the project will enhance the riverfront for the city just north of Louisville, Kentucky.

A previous plan that included more boat docks had to be scaled back after construction bids came in more than double the budgeted amount.
