MADRAS, Ore. (AP) - The Jefferson County sheriff’s office says there have been three recent reports of cattle rustling in the Juniper Butte area near Culver.

In each case, the rustlers removed newborn baby calves in the middle of the night.

KTVZ reports (http://bit.ly/1teJADp ) as many as 200 head of cattle are stolen each year in Oregon but many losses aren’t reported to law enforcement.

The Oregon Department of Agriculture says higher beef prices have led to an increase in cattle thefts statewide.
