GREENVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A large independently owned sporting goods store in western Kentucky is closing its doors after nearly 40 years.

Lee Fauntleroy, owner of Uncle Lee’s in Greenville, announced the closing this week. It affects about 90 employees.

Fauntleroy says he’s sad to see the store close but he says he wants to enjoy his family. He was unable to find a buyer for the store, since it is in a small market. He says the store’s online business will be sold to a buyer.

The store opened in 1975 with about 32,000 feet of retail space and has undergone two expansions since then. The store had stocked about 4,800 firearms before its closing.

Fauntleroy says he will work with the Pennyrile Area Development District to help workers find new jobs.
