GOV. RICK SCOTT SKIPS DEPOSITION IN PUBLIC RECORDS LAWSUIT

Florida Gov. Rick Scott skipped testifying in a bitter public records lawsuit. Scott was scheduled to give a deposition Friday over private Google email accounts set up by the governor and two former aides. A Tallahassee attorney wants information about the accounts that he says were used by the Scott administration to sidestep the state’s open records law. But Scott did not show up. The Republican governor was campaigning instead in South Florida.

FLORIDA AG BONDIO ASKS FEDERAL JUDGE TO KEEP GAY MARRIAGE BAN IN PLACE WHILE STATE APPEALS

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is asking a federal judge to keep the state’s ban on gay marriage in place despite a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision. The court’s decision to turn away appeals from five states prompted the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida as well as lawyers representing same-sex couples to ask a federal judge in Tallahassee to allow same-sex marriages. But Bondi on Friday asked that U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle keep the state’s ban in place while the state pursues appeals.

TAMPA POLICE SAY SUSPECT SHOT NEIGHBOR BECAUSE DOG POPPED ON LAWN

Tampa Police say a gunman shot his neighbor because his dog pooped on the lawn. Spokeswoman Andrea Davis said the unidentified suspect was upset that 30 year-old Dante J. Roberson’s dog defecated in the suspect’s yard. The suspect shot Roberson, who was hospitalized in stable condition. The gunman fled the scene.

LOUISIANA POLICE SAY WOMAN TRIED TO SELL GIRL, DROVE OFF IN MINIVAN WITH FLORIDA PLATES

Police in Louisiana say they are looking for a woman who offered a child for sale at a gas station.

Investigators say the woman approached people Friday morning, asking if they wanted to buy a young girl, who appeared to be around 10 years old. He says the station manager reported the woman also had been asking station patrons for money to buy fuel. Devall says the woman was last seen driving away with the child and a man in a minivan with Florida license plates.

TAMPA BA RAYS MANAGER JOE MADDON OPTS OUT OF CONTRACT

The Tampa Bay Rays announced Friday that Joe Maddon has exercised an opt-out in his contract, which was due to expire after next season. Owner Stuart Sternberg said in a statement they tried diligently and aggressively to sign Joe to a third contract extension prior to his decision. Maddon has managed the Rays for nine seasons, compiling a 754-705 record. He led took Tampa Bay to the playoffs four times and won the AL pennant in 2008.
