CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware is coming to West Virginia to tout Democrat Natalie Tennant’s Senate candidacy.

The Democrat will join Tennant in Kanawha, Wyoming and Fayette counties Saturday. Tennant, West Virginia’s secretary of state, faces Republican Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito for an open Senate seat.

Carper will be in Charleston for a rally Saturday afternoon. Afterward, he will tour the Coalfields Expressway and talk with the King Coal Highway Authority and local leaders in Mullens.

Carper and Tennant will attend the Fayette County Democratic Dinner in Oak Hill in the evening.

Carper is the chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

Tennant and Capito are contending for retiring Democratic Sen. Jay Rockefeller’s seat.
