GARY, Ind. (AP) - Gary police were questioning two people Saturday in the death of a 13-year-old boy who authorities say was shot by a neighbor enraged that the child laughed at him after the man discovered his house had been burglarized.

Cpl. Gabrielle King said police were holding a 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman at the city jail as persons of interest in Friday evening’s killing of Kobe Jones.

She said the two individuals’ names were being withheld because they have not been charged in the case and the investigation is ongoing.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds about 6:30 p.m. Friday, the Lake County coroner’s office said.

A neighbor shot Jones several times after the teen laughed at the man, who had returned home to find his house burglarized, according to Lt. Thomas Pawlak.

Cmdr. Del Stout told the Post-Tribune (http://bitly.com/1yyEGBP) Saturday that while there are two persons of interest in custody, residents on the block have been unwilling to speak to investigators about what happened.

“We know there were a lot of people out there when he was ranting and raving, but no one wants to tell us what they saw,” Stout said.
