BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) - The 3M Company is planning a $70 million expansion of its plant in Brookings.

The Argus Leader reports (http://argusne.ws/1uja0nS ) that the project will be done in phases through 2018 and will create almost 90 jobs. The company is expected to get state and city tax incentives and help with job-training costs.

Part of the expansion is almost operational. The company invested nearly $12 million in new equipment that’s being installed in the current facility.

A 44,000-square-foot addition will add more than $40 million in new equipment. Construction is expected to start next April, with equipment installation lasting through 2018. It’s the first significant addition since the building was completed in 1991.

Plant Manager Ann Getting says workers in Brookings “have delivered fantastic results over a long history.”
