PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The state’s first workspace specifically designed for entrepreneurs to jumpstart their food-related startup companies has opened.

Hope & Main held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday for the culinary business incubator facility in Warren, Rhode Island.

The 17,500-square-foot space that was formerly the Main Street School includes several shared-use kitchens, including a gluten-free kitchen and artisanal bakery, production space, cold and dry storage and event space. There will be a weekly market for member companies and local producers to sell to consumers.

More than 30 culinary entrepreneurs will use the facility.

The $3.2 million renovation was funded primarily by a loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Hope & Main bought the building from the town in 2013. The nonprofit helps food-based entrepreneurs produce and sell their products.
