TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - A 30-year-old Topeka man has been sentenced to life in prison for strangling a woman in a motel last year.

The Topeka Capital-Journal (http://bit.ly/ZCbCO1 ) reports Andrew Charles Redick was found guilty Aug. 12 of premeditated first-degree murder and arson in the death of Lena Ann Keithley last November.

At a tension-filled sentencing hearing Friday morning, Shawnee County District Court Judge Cheryl Kingfisher also sentenced Redick to 13 months on the arson charge.

Several times during the hearing Redick turned to face the victim’s family while speaking with the judge and was told to face the court. Redick also said he doesn’t cooperate with police, nor does he like them.

Keithley’s body was found Nov. 15 in the Country Club Motel in Topeka.
