VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) - Authorities say a man who crashed a semitrailer on Interstate 94 near Valley City just a few hours later crashed a pickup truck into a pole in a hotel parking lot in the city.

The semitrailer crash on Wednesday afternoon took out a bridge guard rail and spilled barley into the ditch. It forced the shutdown of one lane on the interstate and snarled traffic.

The Highway Patrol says the 46-year-old driver wasn’t hurt. But Valley City police say the man was injured early Thursday when he allegedly crashed into the pole. He was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries.

Police say they found drug paraphernalia on the man and in the pickup. He was not immediately formally charged.
