EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - An Army veteran and longtime lawyer who has offered free legal services to veterans with disability claims has been awarded a Madison County judicial position.

The (Alton) Telegraph (http://bit.ly/1vBb86A) reports that Third Circuit Chief Judge David Hylla appointed Martin Mengarelli as the replacement to Keith Jensen, who resigned.

Mengarelli has been attorney for more than two decades, most recently serving as an associate with the Simmons Hanly Conroy firm in Alton.

Mengarelli served in the Army from 1985 to 1987 and earned his law degree from Northern Illinois University in 1993.

Hylla says Megnarelli’s “record of community and military service speaks for itself.”

Mengarelli’s wife, Laura Andrews, also is an attorney in Madison County.
