ALTENBURG, Mo. (AP) - A southeastern Missouri school district has been awarded nearly $500,000 for programs before and after school.

The Southeast Missourian reports (http://bit.ly/1vzndaz ) Friday the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has awarded the grant to Altenburg Public Schools.

The funding will be paid over a five-year period. The district has 117 students from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade.

Superintendent Bleu Deckerd says specific programs haven’t been announced but their focus will be on tutoring and homework. He says there will also be literacy and technology programs for adults.
