WHAT’S AT STAKE

After opening the Pac-12 season at Colorado, the Sun Devils dive into the teeth of their schedule by hosting UCLA, traveling to USC and then playing Stanford in Tempe, Arizona. The team can’t get caught looking ahead: The Buffaloes overcame an 11-point deficit to beat UMass last weekend.

KEY MATCHUP

Colorado’s secondary vs. Arizona State’s Taylor Kelly. The Sun Devils are 14-1 when Kelly doesn’t throw an interception and 6-8 when he does. The multi-dimensional QB is difficult to contain, throwing for 60 TD passes in his career and rushing for 11. What’s more, this team quickly gets going. They’ve outscored opponents 317-146 in the first quarter under coach Todd Graham.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Arizona State: DB Damarious Randall. In a win at New Mexico, Randall had 10 tackles and a forced fumble. He’s 12th in the nation with 7 1/2 solo tackles per game. The senior finished tied for third on the team with 71 tackles last season.

Colorado: WR Shay Fields. The athletic freshman has 14 receptions, tying the school record for most through two games to start a career. Scotty McKnight had 14 in 2007.
