ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - Washington County investigators are reviewing the fatal shooting Thursday of a man accused of robbing a bank, taking two employees hostage and leading police on a chase that ended in a shootout.

The Spectrum of St. George reports (http://bit.ly/1qKNm6g ) a county task force is reviewing the shooting of 37-year-old Benjamin J. Schroff.

Authorities say Schroff escaped with an undisclosed amount of money after robbing a St. George bank early Thursday afternoon and took two female employees hostage by forcing them into a car.

Officials say he later left the hostages safe in the car and fled on foot.

Police say they later found Schroff holding a shotgun and standing on the banks of the Virgin River.

Two officers fired multiple shots and hit Schroff, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

No others were injured.
