PHOENIX (AP) - The number of elective abortions reported in Arizona has remained stable over the past two years but there was a drop in the rate for 18- and 19-year-olds.

The Department of Health Service’ annual report on abortions says there were 13,401 reported elective abortions in 2013, only slightly more than the 13,340 in 2012.

The department says the rate for the 18-19-year-old age group decreased by about a third between 2012 and 2013. That age group accounted for just under 8 percent of the abortions performed in 2013.

The department says most Arizona women who got abortions in the state are between ages 20 and 29, and four out of five women getting abortions aren’t married.

Just under three-quarters of the abortions performed in Arizona are surgical.
