ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - In order to combat prostitution, Anaheim will begin publicly shaming people convicted of soliciting sex from a prostitute.

The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to add the name of anyone convicted to an online list.

The Orange County Register says (http://bit.ly/1ohdEZm ) the move comes a year after the district attorney’s office enacted a policy to post the names on its website and distribute the list to news media.

Opponents have said that public shaming could harm the families of those convicted. But Councilwoman Lucille Kring said that men who solicit sex acts put themselves in jeopardy.

It was unclear when Anaheim will enact the new rule.
