DETROIT (AP) - Despite the urging of a judge, there’s no plea deal in the case of a suburban Detroit man who is accused of arranging his wife’s murder.

Robert Bashara (buh-SHER’-uh) returned to Wayne County court Wednesday. Judge Vonda Evans says a deal apparently is “not possible,” which means a trial will go ahead as planned on Oct. 6.

The Grosse Pointe Park man is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jane Bashara, who was strangled in 2012. A handyman is in prison for second-degree murder after saying he killed her on Bashara’s orders.

The 56-year-old Bashara is in prison for trying to have the handyman killed. He’s eligible for parole in 2019.
