DUBLIN, Ga. (AP) - A former prison guard has pleaded guilty to attempting to smuggle a cell phone into a federal prison facility for an inmate.

Federal prosecutors say 23-year-old Meagan Deaton of Douglas entered a plea this week in federal court in Dublin. A judge sentenced her to serve 30 days in prison, 60 hours of community service and a year of supervised release.

Prosecutors say Deaton was a guard at a federal prison in McRae and tried to give a cell phone to an inmate in October in exchange for money.
