DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa senator says he has a brain tumor, but plans to be present at the start of the next legislative session.

Democrat Sen. Joe Seng, of Davenport, said in a statement Thursday that doctors recently discovered a tumor in the left parietal lobe of his brain. That is around the top of the head.

Seng said he will undergo more tests to determine his treatment plan. He said treatment for such a tumor usually includes a combination of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.

He said he plans to be in his Senate seat on the first day of the 2015 session.
