JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - A House committee is working out the details of a new marijuana control board.

The House Judiciary Committee discussed a new version of the bill Monday that would create a new board to develop regulations for a commercial marijuana industry.

The new version says the industry representatives could be marijuana advocates or those who have looked at marijuana from an academic perspective. A prior version would have had alcohol-industry representation as a stand-in for the marijuana industry initially.

The five-member board would share staff with Alaska’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

The bill also specifies that the two boards would meet back-to-back to save on travel costs.

Committee members had some remaining concerns about the bill, including the criteria for the rural representative and whether the board controls or regulates marijuana.
