MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - State health officials will begin testing Alabama State University students who might have been exposed to tuberculosis.

The Alabama Department of Public Health announced Tuesday that workers are trying to identify students and staff who may have been exposed to a person with tuberculosis.

Assistant State Health Officer Karen Landers says the person with tuberculosis had previously been treated for the disease but suffered a relapse.

Landers says so far, there is only one person diagnosed with tuberculosis on the Alabama State University campus in Montgomery. She says officials are trying to identify people who might have been exposed to that person and test them for tuberculosis. The health department held a town hall meeting on campus Tuesday. Testing of exposed students and staff will begin Thursday.
