ERIE, Pa. (AP) - A northwestern Pennsylvania doctor has been sentenced to three years, three months in federal prison for keeping a computer flash drive of child pornography downloaded 17 years ago.

Forty-seven-year-old William Blazes, of Spartansburg, was charged after someone else found the storage device in a physician’s break room at Corry Memorial Hospital last year.

Blazes acknowledged downloading some 1,200 pictures and 30 movies depicting child sexual abuse and rape when he was a research assistant at the University of Delaware in the late 1990s.

Blazes acknowledged keeping the collection, and viewing its contents occasionally, but denied ever sharing the information or obtaining any more child pornography.

A federal judge in Erie on Monday sentenced Blazes to about half the prison term prosecutors were seeking, noting Blazes’ medical license is suspended and he still owes $250,000 in student loans.
