PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A man accused of killing his cousin during an argument outside his Portland home has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge.

Police arrested 51-year-old William Heyser March 28 after responding to a report of a shooting in northeast Portland.

Paramedics found 46-year-old Arthur Palmer dead in the front yard of Heyser’s home. The cousins lived next door to each other.

Heyser remained at the scene with other relatives and was taken into custody. Police seized a shotgun.

Court records show Heyser told officials he had been drinking the night before, and the shooting was an accident.

Heyser has an extensive criminal history that includes felony convictions.

The Oregonian reports (https://is.gd/DlBn0M) he is being held at Inverness Jail on no bail.
