LOS ANGELES (AP) - It rained, it poured, and the Dodger Stadium infield was covered by a tarp - a rare sight at Chavez Ravine.

With the Los Angeles Dodgers set to host the Padres in the middle game of their season-opening series Tuesday night, a hard and steady rain began to fall while San Diego was taking batting practice. The start was pushed back 30 minutes to 7:40 p.m., an unusual delay for sunny Southern California.

Zack Greinke started for Los Angeles against Tyson Ross in a matchup of All-Star pitchers.

The most recent rainout at Dodger Stadium was April 17, 2000, when the Houston Astros were in town. There have been 17 rainouts since the ballpark opened in 1962, and the Padres were the visiting team most often - six times.

Nine of Dodger Stadium’s rainouts have been in April, including the last five.

The Padres had an entire three-game series at Los Angeles postponed in 1988, the year the Dodgers won their most recent pennant and World Series title.
