RIDGELAND, Miss. (AP) - Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee and Madison County are fighting over $1 million McGee says the city is owed for construction and expansion of Lake Harbour Drive.

The Clarion-Ledger reports (http://on.thec-l.com/1H3X7El ) Madison County promised to pay the city $1.9 million once the work was completed. That agreement was signed in 2010. The project cost $16.3 million.

In September, the county gave the city $904,000, part of $1 million officials said the city received from the Legislature. McGee said the county also lobbied for that money for the Lake Harbour Road Improvements Fund, and that money does not replace the amount owed by the county.

McGee said Tuesday he wants the other $1 million.

“In my opinion, we’ve met our pledge 100 percent,” Madison County Board of Supervisors attorney Mike Espy said at the supervisors meeting on Monday, where McGee came before the board asking it to vote to give the city the funding.

McGee said on Tuesday he has requested a meeting with Espy and Board of Supervisors President Karl Banks, and he hopes they will reach an agreement.

He said a lawsuit is “an option” if no agreement is made.

The project included the widening of Lake Harbour Drive from the Northpark Drive intersection to the Mississippi Highway 51 intersection.
