DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say a man was taken to a hospital after he was hit by a train in Des Moines.

Des Moines television station KCCI reports (http://bit.ly/1akxQsA ) that medics and other rescue workers were sent to the scene around 1 a.m. Wednesday. Officials say a Union Pacific train was heading southbound when it struck 32-year-old Joseph Lange, of Des Moines.

Lange was transported to Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Details on his condition haven’t been released.

It’s unclear why Lange was near the tracks when he was hit by the train. Officers say they arrived to find Lange unconscious and still under the train.

The case remains under investigation.
