FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - Police in Fort Smith say the death of a man who disappeared from his home in February and the man’s caretaker has been arrested for second-degree murder in the case.

Police said Wednesday that the state medical examiner has determined that the death of 57-year-old Jimmy Don Abner is a homicide. Police later arrested Abner’s caretaker, who is being held without bond in the Sebastian County jail.

Abner was reported missing Feb. 10 by the caretaker who told police he had tried to stop Abner from leaving his home, then witnessed Abner getting into a vehicle and leaving.

Abner’s body was found Feb. 12 near Cedarville in rural Crawford County.
