EASTON, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say an eastern Pennsylvania school district bus driver may have been trying to get her car started before she was crushed to death by the vehicle in an elementary school parking lot.

Officials in Northampton County said 61-year-old Bonny Novack had been having car trouble and had taken to using a method called “push-starting” or “popping the clutch,” getting the vehicle moving and then releasing the clutch pedal.

But police said she got in front of the moving vehicle at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, apparently to try to stop it, before she was pinned against a parked car at the Easton School District’s bus depot at Tracy Elementary School in Palmer Township.

The district delayed school openings by two hours Wednesday to allow a meeting of transportation department employees.
