VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - The City of Vancouver says a proposal by NuStar Energy L.P. to handle crude oil at the Port of Vancouver must undergo a detailed environmental review.

The Columbian reports ( http://bit.ly/1CSIDnX ) the decision means the planned conversion of NuStar’s existing facility would be subject to an environmental impact statement. The company has until April 17 to appeal the city’s decision.kmc

NuStar wants to convert its existing facility at the Port of Vancouver to handle about 22,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

Brett VandenHeuvel is the executive director of Columbia Riverkeeper, an environmental advocacy group. He says requiring an environmental review of the project makes sense.
