OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) - Muscogee (Creek) Nation Environmental Services is seeking volunteers for an Earth Day trash pickup event.

The Oklahoma-based tribe has partnered with the Okmulgee County Conservation District to host a trash pickup in Okmulgee on April 22.

The tribe’s environmental services manager, Del Beaver, says the event’s top priority is to pick up trash along a four-mile stretch of State Highway 56 Loop, a bypass route around northeast Okmulgee.

Muscogee (Creek) citizens and the general public are welcome to participate. Beaver says the more people that are involved, the better.

Officials at Environmental Services hope the event will help instill a sense of community pride. The 77,000-member tribe’s headquarters is in Okmulgee.

Beaver says volunteers are asked to pre-register for the event so Environmental Services officials can get a head count.
