ROCHESTTER, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 39-year-old man has been arrested after Transportation Security Administration agents caught him trying to sneak three unloaded guns through security at Rochester International Airport.

Time Warner Cable News reports (http://bit.ly/1DJIHtO ) that Jesse Erdle of the Rochester suburb of Pittsford was going through a security checkpoint on Tuesday when TSA officers say an X-ray machine detected three semi-automatic handguns sealed inside a small cardboard box he had placed on the conveyor belt.

Officials say the box contained a .45-caliber handgun and two .40-caliber guns.

Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested Erdle on a criminal weapons charge for having an unloaded gun that wasn’t on his pistol permit. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.

A federal investigation is continuing.
