BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) - State police say alcohol is believed to have played a role in a one-car crash in upstate New York that left one man dead and another injured.

Troopers say 34-year-old Jemark Ballenger of Endicott was driving around 3:20 a.m. Thursday when he crashed on a turn on a road in the Broome County town of Binghamton.

Police say Ballenger’s car left the road and hit a tree.

The front-seat passenger, 29-year-old Troy McIver of Johnson City, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ballenger suffered a broken leg and arm and was taken to Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City.

Troopers say charges are pending against Ballenger.
