ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (AP) - A St. Albans man has been sentenced for pretending to be his brother after police found marijuana in his apartment.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail (http://bit.ly/1i6WJMT) reports 32-year-old Knanh Nguyen was sentenced Thursday in Kanawha Circuit Court to three years in jail for identity theft, plus a one-to three-year sentence for violating his probation.

Assistant prosecutor Fred Giggenbach says Nguyen had his brother’s driver’s license when police searched his apartment in September 2014 and found a large amount of marijuana.

Nguyen was indicted, convicted and sentenced to probation for a marijuana possession charge as his brother, Anh Nguyen.

Giggenbach says Anh Nguyen lives in Louisiana and doesn’t have a criminal record.

Knanh Nguyen was caught posing as his brother while serving jail time after violating his probation.
