MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) - McComb officials have agreed to spend the city’s $292,000 settlement from the BP oil spill on street repairs following debate on a proposal that would have given half of the money to repairing the Martin Luther King Center gym.

The Enterprise-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1JnHIgf) officials agree this week that the city’s streets are in bad shape, but stress they are slowly but surely getting a new layer of asphalt as funds allow.

McComb’s share of the BP money comes from a $18.7 billion settlement made to government entities in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, as well as the federal government for the April 2010 oil spill.
