BEND, Ore. (AP) - Deschutes County is reviewing a permit request for developing up to 490 residential lots as part of an expansion at the Caldera Springs resort.

The Bulletin reports (http://is.gd/kC6Gwg ) that Pine Forest Development LLC, a wing of Sunriver Resort Limited Partnership, the owners of Sunriver Resort, filed the permit application.

At a public hearing Tuesday, owners of surrounding properties raised concerns about traffic impacts and evacuation routes from the development if a wildfire were to break out.

The developers are requesting a ratio of 2.5 single-family homes to 1 overnight unit compared to the current 2 single-family homes to 1 overnight unit requirement.

State law allows the increased ratio of homes to overnight rentals at destination resorts.
