LOS BANOS, Calif. (AP) - More than two dozen pet dogs died in a large house fire in Central California.

The Merced Sun Star reports (http://hrld.us/1Ib9LVC) Thursday that the cause of the fire Wednesday afternoon in Los Banos is under investigation.

Battalion Chief Jeremy Rahn says one man suffered minor burn injuries but declined medical treatment. His name and age were not released.

The exact number of pets killed was not immediately clear, but Rahn says it was at least 25.

It was not immediately known why the resident had so many dogs in the home.

A damage estimate was not immediately available Thursday.

About 20 firefighters responded to the scene from the county and city fire departments. The fire was controlled in about an hour.
