CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - A judge has declared a mistrial in the case of a suburban St. Louis mayor accused of striking a bicyclist with his car.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1Ob4Ar5) reports that St. Louis County Circuit Judge Thomas Prebil made the ruling Thursday during the third day of testimony in the trial for 61-year-old Mark Furrer, mayor of Sunset Hills.

Furrer had told jurors he never struck the bicyclist, Randy Murdick. The mistrial was declared when discussion turned to a settlement offer in a civil case filed by Murdick.

The incident happened last year. Furrer pleaded not guilty to second-degree assault and property damage. Murdick claimed during the trial that Furrer struck him on purpose. Furrer had claimed Murdick ran a stop sign.
