SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) - A candidate for Maryland’s 8th District congressional seat will donate $5,400 that was given to him by former hedge fund manager and pharmaceutical executive Martin Shkreli.

According to the Baltimore Sun (http://bsun.md/1QRlXvS ), Federal Election Commission records show that Shkreli personally contributed $5,400 to Democrat Will Jawando’s campaign. Employees at Shkreli’s company, Turing Pharmaceuticals, gave more than $23,000 of the $275,000 Jawando has raised for his campaign.

Earlier this year, Turing controversially raised the price of a drug by 5,000 percent after acquiring rights to it.

Jawando says he’s strongly against price-gouging and will give the money Shkreli contributed to The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington.

Shkreli was arrested Thursday on fraud charges unrelated to his time at Turing.

The district includes parts of Montgomery, Frederick and Carroll counties.
