NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) - Police say they’ve identified the driver in a hit-and-run accident that killed a Connecticut College student.

Police on Friday did not release the identity of the suspected driver. WTNH-TV reports that an officer saw a rental car in a Waterford neighborhood that matched evidence collected at the scene.

Deputy Chief Peter Reichard says authorities have been in contact with the person who was operating the vehicle and the individual is cooperating with police.

Anique Ashraf, a third-year student from Lahore, Pakistan, was found by crews who responded to a report of an unresponsive person on the side of the road around 2 a.m. Friday. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

College President Katherine Bergeron said Ashraf was “a person with deeply held convictions who lived life to its fullest.”
