NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) - A federal jury has convicted a man accused of fatally stabbing another man in Mountrail County.

KXMB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1RWcVyr ) that 24-year-old Terrance Jackson was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Gerald Smith.

Smith was found dead on the side of state Highway 23 near New Town in March 2014. Authorities determined he’d been stabbed in the heart.

Jackson claimed self-defense.

He’ll be sentenced at a later date.
