ALTUS, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says a man was shot and wounded by an Altus police officer after pointing a weapon at the officer.

The OSBI says Altus police were attempting to arrest 35-year-old Pete Mendoza Miranda Jr. at a home in southwest Altus on Saturday when Miranda barricaded himself with a handgun inside a bedroom.

The OSBI says police told agents that Miranda then ran from the home with officers chasing on foot until he hid behind a vehicle and pointed a pistol at an officer. One officer then opened fire and struck Miranda twice. Miranda was treated and released at a hospital before being arrested on a felony warrant for knowingly concealing stolen property, possession of controlled dangerous drugs, and use of a firearm while committing a felony.
