MILWAUKEE (AP) - A case of the mumps has been confirmed in a student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The university says the confirmation was made on Wednesday. Now, the school’s health center and the city of Milwaukee’s Health Department are following up with people who may have had close contact with the student.

The school’s Norris Health Center is encouraging members of the campus community to check immunization records. Free vaccinations will be offered on campus next Wednesday.

Students who are experiencing symptoms of the mumps should contact the Norris Health Center. The school also says anyone who is sick should stay home.

Statewide, there have been 37 reports of the mumps in 2015.
